Vyre 0.1.0

Known gap

This is a draft, written before the release is cut. Lines marked (pending) describe work that is built and tested on its own branch but not yet on main. They move into the release, or out of these notes, when 0.1.0 is tagged. package.json still says 0.0.1 until then.

What Vyre is

Vyre is your own assistant system, built around Claude Code. A box (a small server you own, or your Mac) runs your sessions, agents, memory and vault around the clock. Your Mac, your phone and any browser on your tailnet reach it. Nothing about you lives on someone else's service: the box holds it, Tailscale connects your devices, and only you are let in.

Everything in Vyre is a module on one contract, so every part can be switched off, replaced, or joined by a module you write.

What is in it

The Capsule, on your Mac

A command bar that opens when you press Control twice. Find files on the Mac and the box, ask your assistant or any agent, answer what waits on you, fill a login from the vault, set timers and send messages through the Mac's apps, and open Glass. It is a native app, built on your Mac by vyre capsule install, with nothing to download.

  • Asking about your screen: the Capsule attaches what is on screen only when your words point at it, and shows it as a chip first. Password fields and sign-in dialogs stay blind.
  • Talking: ⌥⏎ and speak (needs a speech key in the vault).
  • (pending) An answer appears on its own when you pause, from a fast model. ⌘⏎ thinks deeper, in the same thread.
  • (pending) "do …": type do and what you want, and Vyre uses the Mac for you, step by step on screen. Esc stops it. Sends, payments and deletions still wait for you.

The Deck, in any browser on your tailnet

Now (what needs you, what is running, what memory learned), projects and their sessions, Chat with full Claude Code parity (steering, queueing, the / menu, ! shell, # memory, images, thinking, rewind), agents and their computers in Glass, the vault, memory as a floor plan, and a terminal on the box that survives a lost connection.

The phone

Open your box's address in Safari or Chrome and add it to the home screen: Now, Chat, Find, Glass and approvals, with push notifications and quiet hours. (pending) vyre phone add pairs a phone in one step, and the one app for web, iPhone and Android (ADR 0027) replaces the current phone pages.

Vyre IQ, your memory

Vyre reads your Claude Code sessions and keeps what matters as facts you can see, trace to the turn they came from, pin, mute or correct. vyre memory ask "…" --sources answers questions about your own work with the sources behind the answer. (pending) Vyre IQ (ADR 0034) answers only from what you said yourself, gives the same answer each time, and says "I don't know yet" rather than guess.

The vault and connections

Secrets and logins, sealed on the box, sent only to the host they belong to, and revealed only after Touch ID or a passkey. One proof covers 30 minutes. Google accounts connect with a browser sign-in, and every email, post or payment waits at the Gate for you to send it. (pending) Vault connections (ADR 0028): every key a module needs is set up from one "needs a credential" flow, for API keys, OAuth, service accounts, mail servers and MCP servers, granted per surface. (pending) "Send an email" offers every account you granted.

Settings in one place

Deck Settings covers setup, the assistant, Claude Code, connections, the network, devices, memory, notifications, security, modules and appearance. (pending) The settings hub (ADR 0035): every setting, session option and design token in one file, edited the same way from the Deck, the phone and vyre config, at account or project level, and followed live by every surface.

Updates

vyre box update updates the box from the Mac. (pending) vyre update on the Mac reads GitHub Releases, shows what changed, backs up your data first, and rolls back by itself if the new version does not come up. --channel beta follows prereleases, and --rollback goes back by hand.

Modules and tips

Put a module in ~/.vyre/modules/ and it loads beside Vyre's own, with its tools reachable from Claude, the CLI and every surface. The module API is versioned from this release (apiVersion: 1) and its types ship in packages/module-sdk (pending). Every module ships tips: one short line at a time about what you are using, what you have not tried, and what an update brought. They never show while something waits for you, and they turn off in Settings. (pending) vyre tips lists them now; each surface shows them as its next release lands.

Known limits

  • Pairing a Mac needs a second device. A Mac cannot approve its own pairing: approve it from your phone or another browser. See known gaps.
  • Federation is later. The box reads your Mac's sessions and searches them, but answering a Mac session's question from the box, and typing into it from Chat, come in a later release.
  • The phone pages are being rebuilt. The current pages work; the one app (ADR 0027) is on hold until the first real iPhone run.
  • No relay yet. Phones and browsers reach the box over Tailscale. The relay that reaches it without Tailscale (ADR 0026) is built but not deployed.
  • Not yet checked on a real Mac: computer use ("do …") and voice have passed their tests but not a first real run.
  • Not on npm yet. Install from vyre.run (below). npm publishing comes after this release.
  • No new-module command yet. vyre module new, check and add (ADR 0033 phases 1 and 3) come later; for now copy a module folder into ~/.vyre/modules/ and switch one off with modules.disable in config.json.

Install

On your Mac:

npm install -g https://vyre.run/box/vyre.tgz
vyre up

vyre up asks where Vyre should run: a server you reach over SSH, this Mac, or a box you already have. Onboarding then finishes in the browser: you, Claude, Tailscale, your address, your history, your devices. Then build and open the Capsule:

vyre capsule

On a server of your own, the box installs with one line (--dry-run shows what it would change):

curl -fsSL https://vyre.run/install.sh | sh

The full walk-through is Install, and your first 20 minutes are Your first hour.

Update

  • The box, from your Mac: vyre box update.
  • (pending) The Mac: vyre update, or vyre update --check to see whether one is waiting.
  • After an update, vyre tips new shows what came with it.
